Frequently Asked Questions

What is Stratus? Stratus is a surgeon-led, AI-powered logistics platform that connects hospitals with a trusted network of rotating surgeons. We help hospitals expand specialty surgical access without the cost or complexity of full-time hiring—and offer surgeons a more flexible, sustainable way to practice. Stratus handles scheduling, contracting, and operational support, allowing both hospitals and surgeons to stay focused on delivering high-quality care.

Why Stratus, and why now? The gap between surgical demand and available surgeons is growing—especially in rural and regional communities. At the same time, many surgeons are seeking more flexible, sustainable ways to practice. Stratus was built to meet both needs. By combining technology with a surgeon-first approach, we help hospitals unlock underused O.R. capacity while giving surgeons more control over how and where they work. It's a smarter, more scalable solution for a system under strain.

How does Stratus work? Whether you’re a hospital, clinic, or surgeon, Stratus starts with a secure portal. Each user logs in to be matched based on operating room availability, surgical needs, and geographic proximity. Stratus manages the backend operations to ensure a seamless experience for all parties, while providers maintain patient ownership and clinical oversight.

What types of surgeries does Stratus support? Stratus currently focuses on microsurgical procedures. We work closely with hospitals to determine what is most needed in each region.

Where is Stratus operating? Stratus is active in select rural regions across the U.S. We’re expanding on a strategic basis and welcome conversations with hospitals, clinics, or state leaders interested in bringing Stratus to new areas. Reach out at contact@stratus.com to explore opportunities in your state or region.

How much does Stratus cost? For surgeons, joining Stratus is completely free. A low monthly subscription fee applies only after a successful match is made. For hospitals and clinics, accessing the Stratus platform and initiating matches with surgeons requires a monthly subscription fee. Once a match is made, additional fees—such as per-case or placement-based costs—will be negotiated based on the specifics of the arrangement.

How can a surgeon join Stratus? Stratus supports a flexible practice model for surgeons who want to serve in high-need areas without relocating. We match you with aligned sites and handle logistics so you can focus on patient care.
